Here are the most common and concerning types of ingredients to look out for: You’ll still find preservative and antioxidant ingredients in a lot of lipsticks, including some of the Good Stuff and Okay Stuff (where applicable, I noted this for people who are particularly sensitive or concerned). Fortunately, most lipstick formulas have minimal water content and need little or no added preservatives also, some lipstick ingredients, like natural oils and waxes, have natural anti-microbial and anti-oxidant properties. Concerns range from irritation and allergenic effects to hormone distruption and cancer.
